The Cardiff Softball 2009 season is now officially up and running with the release of the league fixtures. Following on from our first Friendly Saturday where 5 teams played friendly games through out the day in beautiful, spring sunshine, the games that count to end of season glory (or shame) start on Wednesday 13th.

This year there are seven teams playing on Wednesday evening. The first round of games see the 2008 Champions Evershed Eagles playing away at the Cardiff Cubs, who were unable to stop the Eagles march to glory last August. The 2008 runners up, Pontcanna Pirates are at home against the 2009 new team, SLR Sluggers, no doubt a difficult first match for the Sluggers!

The final game of the evening will see the Sophia Garden Red Sox host the EADS Oddsox in what might be a tricky game for 2008 3rd placed team. 2008 was a difficult first season for the Oddsox, though they are highly tipped to improve this year!

The only team not to play are the MC Hammers, they start their season on the 20th May, when they host the EADS Oddsox. Things won’t get any easier for the SLR Sluggers as they face another difficult away game to Evershed Eagles. The third game on the 20th will see the Pontcanna Pirates take on the Sophia Garden Red Sox. The Red Sox will be looking for an improvement and possible victory after their 17-10 friendly defeat.

The league games will continue through out the summer months with the season finale being played on the 22nd of August to determine the overall 2009 Champions! Full fixture details can be found on the website under the League menu.
